Saturday Steals – Dick’s 3

It’s hard not to like Dick’s. The price is right; the characters, both eating and serving, are generally entertaining; the locations are ideal for after hours entertainment; and the dress code is whatever suits your fancy. You may not want to swing in for a Deluxe all the time, but their rock your gut, balloon your butt burgers are a fantastic treat on occasion – especially if that occasion is late at night after a few libations. Dick’s stays open until 2 AM.On Broadway you’ll find the cross dressing, bar hopping good time crowd. Wallingford tends to be frequented by college students getting their late night study fix or stumbling home. Queen Anne’s in-house seating draws a wider demographic. Lake City tends toward the working folk who swing by for a cheap bite, as does Holman Road. The new Edmonds location provides the north end its burger fix.

Dick’s Drive-In doesn’t make fancy burgers. You won’t find a turkey burger with herb aioli and caramelized onions. Vegetarians will need to stick to fries or go elsewhere. Dick’s is burgers, burgers and more burgers. They serve them up just the way cheap burgers should be: greasy, seasoned, and generously slathered with mayo. While they do charge for ketchup, it’s a whopping $0.05. I’m not going to pretend Dick’s is anything other than Dick’s. I’m also not going to complain. Sometimes you just need a get down and dirty, sit on the back of your car, and wipe grease on your pants kind of meal.

About Mikaela Cowles

I’m a food-gobbling, book-reading, aspiring photog. Born and raised in Seattle, I love dancing in the rain, bouquets of fresh basil and green grass between my toes. I like how kneading butter into flour makes my fingers soft. I’m passionate about all things sweet potato. I prefer my coffee black, my scotch on the rocks and my steak bloody. I hunt, when I have time; play basketball; and hike. I’ve been known to laugh so hard I hyperventilate. And, I’m the owner of Making Language Count, a boutique freelance writing business.
