About Mikaela Cowles

I’m a food-gobbling, book-reading, aspiring photog. Born and raised in Seattle, I love dancing in the rain, bouquets of fresh basil and green grass between my toes. I like how kneading butter into flour makes my fingers soft. I’m passionate about all things sweet potato. I prefer my coffee black, my scotch on the rocks and my steak bloody. I hunt, when I have time; play basketball; and hike. I’ve been known to laugh so hard I hyperventilate. And, I’m the owner of Making Language Count, a boutique freelance writing business.

Spice Rubbed Pork Tacos

Spice Rubbed Pork Tacos

The most amazing things happened last weekend. 25 people, 7 dogs, and 5 blowup mattresses converged on our woodsy ‘cabin’ for 36-ish hours of Seahawks cheering and New Year’s toasting.

Zarah’s Sausage and Peppers

I have formed this habit of measuring time by moments. By memories. By snippets of joy. The morning I learned to eat eggs. The slightly-sunny afternoon Garrett walked toward me for the first time. (He had a red motorcycle helmet tucked under his arm!!) The day my brother and I […]

Brussels Sprout Radicchio Salad Feta

Brussels Sprout Radicchio Salad

Around our third or fourth date Garrett shared his philosophy on women. It went (and still goes) something like this: Every woman is crazy. The secret is just figuring out the kind of crazy you like. I have since come to believe this philosophy also applies to men. Case in […]
